My Favorite Makeup Brushes!

I've been getting asked frequent questions about my Makeup Brushes. Which ones are my favorite & what brushes people should buy. I thought I would just put together an article on my most used & Favorite brushes for you. Hopefully this will help you decide what brushes to have in your collection!
In my Collection I mainly use Makeup Geek (MUG) brushes, I find them to be high quality without the marked up price. I have some must have M.A.C brushes & some generic/drugstore brand as well in my kit. These are my go to brushes!!!

EYE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Stiff Dome Brush
$7.99 (US)
What MUG has to say about it:
"This works great as a dupe of MAC's 217 Brush. (it is a bit more tapered than the MAC 217, however) It's perfect for creating a smokey eye. It is one of Marlena's favorite brushes!"
What I have to say about it:
This is even better then the M.A.C 217 brush ($27 CA). The head is a little smaller which is perfect for my eye. I love this brush for blend cream base all over the lid and blending out harsh lines. This is one of my Favorites and I owe a few of these!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Soft Dome Brush
$7.49 (US)
What MUG has to say about it:
"This sable dome brush is perfect for blending out the crease, softening any harsh lines, or even dusting set powder under the eyes. The hairs are super soft and gentle on the skin!"

What I have to say about it:
This brush is very similar to M.A.C 224 brush ($36.50). Just like the stiff dome brush, the head on this is a little smaller then the 224 which is perfect for everyone. I find that the M.A.C one is just too large! Another great use for this brush is to apply a litter concealer under the eyes to clean up any mess left behind from shadow or just for a little extra coverage!This brush is really super soft!!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Bent Liner Brush
$3.49 (US)
What MUG has to say about it:
"This bent liner brush is similar to the Sonia Kashuk version, but the hairs aren't quite as defined. A great alternative and applies gel liners perfectly!"
What I have to say about it:
This makes appling gel liner and making your winged liner a BREEZE. The bent in the brush helps give you extra contorl when apply on product. I haven't compared it to another brush but I'm fully satisfied with it and never felt the need to try another!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Outer V Brush
$5.99 (US)

What MUG has to say about it:
"This red sable dome brush is the perfect size for defining that outer V or for creating that smoky eye! Is a small version of MAC's #217 brush.
(This is formerly known as the "Deluxe Outer V Brush")
Professional quality brush with super durable and soft bristles!"

What I have to say about it:
My Absolute Favorite!!!! This brush is perfect for just about anything when it comes to shadow! You can achieve a total eye look with only this one brush!!! This one is a must have for your collection! I'm a huge fan of creating the outer V in almost all my looks! I love the dimension it gives to the overall look! I even use this brush for smudging out liner on the lid & lower lash line. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this brush! I need to get a couple more of these bad boys!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Brow Brush Duo
$4.49 (US)
What MUG has to say about it:
"This 2 sided brush is perfect for filling in the brows! The spoolie side is for grooming the brows while the angled brush is for filling in sparse areas with powder."
What I have to say about it:
MUG pretty much summed it up! Super convenient to have the brush & spoolie together for making your brows look picture perfect!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
M.A.C 219 Pencil Brush
$29.50 (CA)

 219 Pencil Brush

What M.A.C has to say about it:
"For precision shading on lid, in eye crease or along lash line. The soft, smooth fibers of this brush are gathered into a pencil-shaped tip. It is ideal for blending eyeliner into eye shadow to create a smoky looking eye. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials."

What I have to say about:
I use this brush to smudge my eyeliner on my lid & lower lash (more often then not I'm grabbing my MUG Outer V Brush instead). I also love this for creating a defined crease (or cut crease). to save a little $$$ try MUG eye liner smudge brush $3.99(US)
I haven't gotten my hands on this one b/c I already had my 219, but I'm sure it works just the same!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
M.A.C 239 Flat Stiff Brush
$29.50 (CA)
239 Eye Shader Brush
What M.A.C has to say about it:
"Soft and dense to shade or blend eye shadow or emollient-based products. This brush has a tapered, rounded edge with smooth, firm, fine fibres. It can be used to build intense colour on the eyelid. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials."
What I have to say about it:
This is where I would definitely spend your $$$! This brush is the boss of all eye shadow brushes!!! I could not live without this one! You get full coverage of shadow on the lid with this brush with minimal
 fall out! You need to invest in this brush... you'll be fully satisfy with it and not feel ripped off!
Face
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What MUG has to say about it:
"This soft stippling brush is perfect for applying highlighter on top
of the cheeks! It is similar to the MAC #188 brush."

What I have to say about this brush:
The duo fiber brush is so soft and feels beautiful on the skin! It
applies the right amount of liquid and power highlighter on the
cheeks and bridge of the nose! Not a must have but I love it!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Blush Brush
$8.99 (US)
What MUG has to say about it:
"This angled blush brush is perfect for applying just the right
amount of color to the cheeks! Amazing quality brush with soft
bristles. Similar to the MAC #168 brush."
What I have to say about it:
Why spend $41 (CA) on a M.A.C brush that does the same as MUG $8.99 brush! the only difference is the M.A.C brush is larger! Save your $$$ and go the MUG route.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Angled Contour Brush
http://www.makeupgeek.com/store/brushes/face-brushes.html
$8.29 (US)

What MUG has to say about it:
"This Italian Badger brush is the deluxe version of the Makeup
Geek Contour Brush. It creates dimension and slims the face by
applying darker powder under the cheekbones!"

What I have to say about it:
LOVE IT! You always see me use this guy in my tutorials!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MUG Foundation/Concealer Brush
http://www.makeupgeek.com/store/brushes/face-brushes/mug-foundation-and-concealer-brush.html
$9.99 (US)
What MUG has to say about it:
"New way to put on that beautiful face! This duo-ended brush has
the softest bristles yet! They do not absorb oils or products!
One end is a larger foundation brush to put on mass amounts of
foundation and the other end is the concealer brush to perfect that
flawless face"
What I have to say about it:
The convenient way to apply your foundation & concealer if you don't like to use your fingers. It's very soft on the skin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BeautyBlender
http://www.makeupgeek.com/store/brushes/tools/beauty-blender.html
Single $18.99 (US)
Double pk $23.99 (US)

What MUG has to say about it:
beautyblender® is the first ergonomically designed non-disposable
sponge applicator that allows you to flawlessly apply your makeup.
It's designed to be cleaned with its partner blendercleanser®—
making it super eco-friendly. It comes with an instruction disc so
you can quickly master your application technique

What I have to say about it:
You must own this!!! If you want to achieve that air brush finish to
your skin this perfect for you!!! The double pack is a value! Plus

you can use this product for three months! All you do is cleanse it
and reuse it! This is perfect to blending out blush if you applied it
with a heavy hand!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There you have it! My most used and favorite brushes!!! I hope
that this helped you along your way in building your Brush
Collection! For a side note I was not paid by Makeup Geek to write
this. If you have been following me from the beginning you know
my favorite brushes have always been MUG!!! I seriously think
that they will become your as well.
Happy Makeup-ing
NAKED vs. NAKED2
Finally received my NAKED2 Palette by Urban Decay! Since it's release in Early Dec. 2011 I've been trying to get my hands on it! The very day It was released I raced down to my near by Sephora. When I rushed in to buy it... it wasn't there. The Makeup Stylist told me that Canada wasn't going to selling it till Spring!!! WHAT??? I was so upset! So I took it as a sign that I should wait b/c I already have the 1st one and I have way too much Makeup.  so I thought to myself, "Just wait for the Canadian debut of this palette". Well, about a month went by & I couldn't take it anymore! I needed... I needed... I needed it!!! So onto Sephora.com I went! All excited that I just purchased the palette I thought to myself, "all I had to do was wait another two weeks"! No problem I waited this long! After a week I check my e-mail where Sephora had informed me that NAKED2 was sold out!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH... WHAT??? So back to the big bad net I went where I purchased it from eBay!!! Alright now it's on it way :) The very next Morning I went to the Mall & decided to check out Sephora. What did I find there? Urban Decay NAKED2 was with a halo of light around it. WHAT??? Well, it came early and I was day late (already buying it from eBay the night before). If you follow me on Twitter I wrote ASAP how Sad & Upset I was over my whole ordeal. I know, I know, I know  #MakeupJunkieProblems. So without any ruther delay here are my thoughs, swatches and video on
All About Primers
In the past couple of years I have gotten my hands on several different primers. Recently have been trying to find one that helps control my pores and make a beautiful even appearance on my skin. I really dislike the look of my pores on my forehead!!! I have some at the inner part of my cheeks right by my nose, but those pesky forehead pores drive me insane! I've been trying out a couple of new ones lately to help with my pore problem. I thought I would share my thoughts on some of them to help you guys out to find the perfect primer suited for you!!!
__________________________
Too Faced Cosmetics Primed and Poreless Skin-Smoothing Face Primer
I just may have fallen head over heels for this one in particular!!!
This is what Sephora has to say about it:
"This one-of a-kind makeup primer was scientifically formulated to wear alone or under bronzers and foundation powders for a look of flawless skin without makeup. Vitamins A & C, Mulberry extract, and a powerful dose of Retinol virtually banish pores while tired skin is left hydrated, firmer, and detoxified. Primed & Poreless creates the perfect canvas to allow powders, bronzers, and foundations to slide seamlessly on the skin—delivering a flawless and perfectly blended look that stay in place all day. Skin appears brighter, fresher, and younger."
What I have to say about:
This is a little miracle in a bottle! I love the way this product feels on my skin! It glides across the skin and it feels like its filling in my pores... It sure looks like it! My pores I would say are diminished at least 80%. It has almost a spongy texture to it (I love that), which makes for a very smooth application. It doesn't feel heavy by any means. Even without makeup on over top of the primer my skin does have a fresher, more evenly smooth surface! This is my new love!!! Why has it taken so long for me to try you?! For me this is it for Face Primers!!! You lose your pores, fine lines and gain beautiful youthful skin! Must have in my makeup kit for now on!!!
Eve Pearl® Priming Moisturizer
What Eve Pearl has to say about it:
"This light, breathable and non-greasy primer will help your skin feel smooth, while helping your makeup to last all day long. A Multi-Functional Primer and Moisturizer. Applied to face and neck for use under makeup or can be worn alone."
What I have to say about it:
First off I LOVE my Eve Pearl products! This primer is smooth and luxuriousness! I love the soft fragrance. This does completely prep the skin for makeup... leaving it with a glow & smooth surface. I feel that it doesn't do to much for my pores which doesn't make me too happy! You can always add a pore filler before in the spots needed (which I do).
_____________________________
Benefit The POREfessional Pore Minimizer
What Sephora has to say about it:
"The POREfessional quickly minimizes the appearance of pores. Apply this silky, lightweight balm to achieve translucent pore coverage and smoother-than-smooth skin. Pores…now you see 'em, now you don't!"
What I have to say about it:
 I find this to be as amazing as Too Faced Cosmetics Primed and Poreless Skin-Smoothing Face Primer. It has that spongy feeling that feels like it's getting right into your pores & skin. It feels so smooth and light on. The only difference is that you can only use this on your pores & not all over the face (so you can't completely prep your skin all at once) Also, with the Too Faced primer your getting 0.25oz more for only $1 more.
______________________________
Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch
Size: 0.50oz $32.50 (US)
What Sephora has to say about it:
"This unique makeup base and primer provides a fine, melting texture that conceals lines, pores, and imperfections in an instant."
What I think about it:
This was my first primer i ever used. I used it for a little over a year (that's how long it took me to use it up)! It made my skin feel pampered and smooth. Does it conceal those lines and pores in an instant... ummm... no, not really. It did help in my lines, but I felt my pores could of used a little extra help. It was also thick, creamy and glide accross the skin beautifully. made a beautiful surface to apply makeup.
Sephora Collection "Tricks of the Trade" Immediate Wrinkle Filler
Size: 0.42oz  $20 (US)
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P216628&categoryId=B70
What Sephora has to about it:
"Sephora Brand "Tricks of the Trade" Immediate Wrinkle Filler evens out skin tone while smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. The gel texture enriched with silicones instantly fills in fine lines and surface imperfections for immediate results. The silky texture provides easy and pleasant application."
What I have to say about:
It's alright. It's thick like Clarins primer, but I feel that it doesn't really do much at all. I actually use this to mix with heavier concealers under the eye so it can help it glide better. I won't say it fills in those fine lines, but it does help a bit so your makeup doesn't crease as much.
_____________________________
Palladio Foundation primer
What Palladio has to say about it:
"Meet the new industry standard in eyeshadow primers—one that retails for LESS THAN HALF the cost of department store brands! Enhanced with 5 different herbal extracts as well as Vitamins A, C and E, this sheer, silicone-based formula glides on like silk and then vanishes instantly. It’s the ultimate makeup kit accessory, that eliminates creasing and ensures maximum shadow vibrancy all-day long."
What I have to say about it:
Not a fan AT ALL. I wanted to give this a try, I mean the price is right! I was left so disappointed & upset that I even spent the $12 on it. I just threw it away. Even if I don't particularly like a product I still hang on to (and use it occasionally) or give it away. This item was not worth passing on to someone else! To me it felt like watered down gel. Awful!!!! You know that saying... "You get what you paid for"... is so true in this case. At least in my opinion.
____________________________
I hope that this helped or guides you towards what you are looking for! Remember any quality cosmetic store will give you a sample of the products they sell. Don't be afraid to ask for samples!!! Even if you want to try four different primers! It's your $$$ in the long run & you don't want to be stuck with a product that isn't right for you. One more thing a little goes a long way with these products. You may spend $20-$35 but it will last a very long time, and with the results your looking for worth every last penny!!!
Much Love,
Nikki
